Whole Wheat bread is the base of a number of snacks. Sandwiches can make a meal on their own! But slices of bread are not just meant to be on the side as an accomplishment or as a base of some recipe. With a handful of magical ingredients, you can easily take your whole wheat /atta bread bread slices many notches high on a scale of deliciousness.
So, here are three wonderful recipes to turn your atta bread slices into lip-smacking snacks that you can enjoy as they are.
Omelette in sandwich
Ingredients:
- The Baker’s Dozen Wholewheat Loaf slices – 2
- 2 egg
- Pinch of salt
- Oil 2 tbsp
- Onion 4 tbsp
- Green capsicum 4 tbsp
- Red capsicum 4 tbsp
- Yellow capsicum 4 tbsp
- Salt 1/2 tsp
- Black pepper 1/2 tsp
- Cheese slices – 2
Procedure:
- Take the wholewheat loaf slices and cut a small square in the centre of each.
- Crack the eggs and beat them lightly with a pinch of salt.
- To a pan, heat the oil.
- Once the oil is heated, add the onions and saute lightly.
- Add the green, yellow and red capsicum.
- Stir well and season with salt and pepper.
- Cook them for 3-5 minutes as per your liking while stirring occasionally.
- Remove the cooked vegetables from the pan.
- Add 1 slice of atta bread with the square slot in the middle.
- Arrange half of the cooked veggies in the square slot. Add half of the beaten egg mixture too.
- Add 1 cheese slice on top.
- Cook the sandwich and repeat the process with the second slice.
- Serve hot with ketchup.
2. Garlic Toast
Ingredients:
- The Baker’s Dozen Wholewheat Loaf/ Atta bread slices – 2
- Garlic cloves – 10-12
- Coriander – 1 tbsp
- Chili flakes – 1 tsp
- Butter (softened) – 2 tbsp
- Grated cheese – 1/4 cup
- Sweet corn – 1 tbsp
- Green chili (optional) – 1/2 tbsp
- Oregano seasoning – 1/2 tbsp
Procedure:
- Run the garlic cloves in a grinder.
- Add the ground garlic cloves to a small bowl.
- Chop the coriander and add it to the garlic cloves.
- Add the softened butter and chilli flakes, and mix well.
- Apply some of this butter mixture to the wholewheat loaf slices.
- Add grated cheese on top.
- Top with sweet corn kernels and thinly sliced green chilli. You can omit the chilli if you want.
- Sprinkle some of the oregano seasonings.
- Join the two slices to form a sort of sandwich.
- In a pan on medium flame, add the garlic butter sandwich.
- Add the remaining butter mixture on the side on top.
- Flip the sandwich and apply the remaining butter mixture on the other side.
- Toast evenly and serve right away.
3. Spicy potato pockets
Ingredients:
- The Baker’s Dozen Wholewheat Loaf slices – 4
- 2 medium-size potatoes – boiled and mashed
- Green peas (two) – 2 tbsp
- Sweet corn – 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Chilli flakes – 1 tsp
- Coriander – 1 tbsp
- Capsicum (any colour of choice) – 2 tbsp, chopped
- Black pepper – 1/4 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1/4 tsp
- Cumin Powder – 1/4 tsp
- Garam masala – 1/4 tsp
- Oil for frying or 4 tbsp oil for shallow frying
Procedure:
- To a bowl, add the mashed potatoes, peas, capsicum and sweet corn.
- Add the salt & black pepper, chilli flakes, all the spices (coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala).
- Then mix all the veggies and spices well.
- Take the wholewheat loaf slices and cut off the edges.
- Using a rolling pin, roll out the slices.
- Put a spoonful of the veggie mixture on one side of one of the slices, avoiding the edges.
- Brush the edges with a little water. Roll the slice to form a pocket and seal the ends of the pocket.
- Repeat this on the remaining slices.
- Deep fry or shallow fry as per your preference.
- Serve with ketchup or other sauce of choice.
