5 sourdough toasts

The aroma of freshly-baked sourdough bread is just divine. It is a technique of making dough that makes this style of bread stand out. In fact, making a good loaf of sourdough is an art and, it has millions of devotees all over the globe. Apart from this, sourdough is very beneficial for your gut as well. 

Sourdough is a healthier alternative to white bread and even to wholewheat bread as well. In this blog, we’ve summarized the reasons why this heavenly bread is beneficial for your gut. But, the best part is that sourdough is the perfect base for toasts! So, here are 5 lip-smacking toast recipes using our country sourdough.

Brushetta 

Ingredients: 

  1. The Baker’s Dozen Country Sourdough – 4 slices 
  2. 2 ripened Tomatoes – diced
  3. 1/4 Red Onion – finely diced 
  4. 1 bunch Basil – roughly chopped or torn to pieces
  5. 2-3 cloves Garlic – finely chopped 
  6. 1-2 tbsp Olive Oil 
  7. Salt and Freshly Cracked Black pepper 
  8. Balsamic vinegar – 1 to 2 tbsp 

Procedure:

  1. Add the diced tomatoes and onions to a bowl.
  2. Add the finely chopped garlic cloves. You can also mash or mince them if you prefer.
  3. Add the basil leaves and olive oil. 
  4. Finally, add salt and pepper and toss everything together. 
  5. Cut The Baker’s Dozen Country Sourdough in slices. Toast the slices lightly to regain original fresh crust
  6. Add generous amounts of the tomato mixture to the sourdough slices.
  7. Drizzle a few drops of Balsamic vinegar on each and serve fresh. 

2. Raw tofu open toast 

Ingredients: 

  1. The Baker’s Dozen Country Sourdough – 4 slices 
  2. 2 ripened Tomatoes – diced
  3. 1/4 Red Onion – finely diced 
  4. 1 green capsicum – chopped 
  5. Few coriander leaves 
  6. Tofu – 100 gm, mashed 
  7. Mayonnaise – ½ tbsp 
  8. Salt and Freshly Cracked Black pepper
  9. Oregano seasoning 

Procedure: 

  1. Mash the tofu with a fork. You can also run it through the mixer for a few seconds.
  2. Add the veggies (onion, tomato, capsicum) to the tofu and combine well.
  3. Add the mayonnaise and mix lightly.
  4. Add the salt and pepper and mix lightly. You can add the oregano seasoning at this stage or save it for later stages. 
  5. Cut The Baker’s Dozen Country Sourdough in slices. Toast the slices lightly to regain original fresh crust
  6. Add generous amounts of the tofu mixture to the sourdough slices.
  7. Sprinkle the oregano seasoning if not done earlier and serve right away. 

3. Avocado toast on sourdough (makes two toasts)

Ingredients: 

  1. The Baker’s Dozen Country Sourdough – 2 slices 
  2. 1 ripe avocado
  3. Goat’s cheese feta (or paneer) – 50 g
  4. Salt and Freshly Cracked Black pepper
  5. Zest from 1 lemon 
  6. 1 clove of garlic – peeled 

Procedure: 

  1. Slice the avocado into thin slices. 
  2. Toast the sourdough slices lightly to regain authentic crust.
  3. Rub the garlic clove on the toasted sourdough to get a mild garlic flavour. You can omit this step if you wish to.
  4. Add the avocado slices to the sourdough toasts.
  5. Add crumbs of feta cheese or paneer.
  6. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Add the lemon zest and serve right away. 

4. Veggie toast 

Ingredients: 

  1. The Baker’s Dozen Country Sourdough – 4 slices 
  2. 2 Potatoes – thinly sliced and boiled 
  3. 1 small onion – cut into rings 
  4. Cream cheese or cheese spread 
  5. Salt and Freshly Cracked Black pepper
  6. Chilli flakes 
  7. 1 clove of garlic – peeled 

Procedure: 

  1. Toast the sourdough slices lightly to regain authentic crust.
  2. Rub the garlic clove on the toasted sourdough to get a mild garlic flavour. You can omit this step if you wish to.
  3. Apply a generous coat of Cream cheese or cheese spread on the toasted sourdough slices.
  4. Top with potato slices and onion rings.
  5. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Sprinkle chilli flakes on top and serve right away. 

5. Pear Brie toast 

Ingredients: 

  1. The Baker’s Dozen Country Sourdough – 4 slices
  2. 1 pear – thinly sliced 
  3. Brie cheese – 100 g (you can use thick cream if you can’t find brie cheese)
  4. Honey – to drizzle 
  5. Toasted and crushed hemp seeds – 1 tbsp 

Procedure:

  1. The sourdough slices don’t need to be toasted for this one. You can toast them for a few seconds if you wish to.
  2. Add the pear slices to the sourdough slices.
  3. Top the slices with slices of brie cheese. Alternatively, drizzle thick cream.
  4. Drizzle honey on top.
  5. Sprinkle toasted and crushed hemp seeds to finish and serve right away.
