3 Must Try Ragi Bread Sandwiches

These days, people are keen on trying to incorporate different types of grains into their diet. Ragi is a holistic breakfast option and is consumed in several different forms like ragi flakes, ragi bread, mixing ragi flour with wheat flour in order to improve nutritional profile. It is also used in several traditional Indian recipes. Ragi is packed with nutrients and hence, a loaf made with whole wheat and ragi is very wholesome, filling and comforting. 

And, when it comes to comfort, one dish that comes to mind is a sandwich. Sandwiches just need a couple of ingredients, mostly whatever you have at hand, and voila! You can make it as healthy as you want by throwing in super foods like avocados, chickpeas and other beans, veggies, etc to make sure you eat right even when you don’t feel like laying back and not preparing much. 

To make it even easier for you, we have compiled 3 mouth-watering ragi bread sandwiches so that you eat deliciously without any guilt. 

1. Chilli Cheese Ragi Bread Sandwich 


  1. Capsicum- 1 medium-sized, chopped 
  2. Corn- 1 small bowl
  3. Onion- 1 small-sized, chopped 
  4. Cheese- 1 bowl
  5. Green chilli- 1
  6. Black pepper (as per taste)
  7. Salt (as per taste) 
  8. Chilli flakes (optional)
  9. Butter (optional) 
  10. Mayonnaise or any other sandwich spread of choice 
  11. TBD’s Ragi loaf slices- 6


  1. Apply a generous amount of mayonnaise or sandwich spread on the ragi loaf slices.
  2. Mix the capsicum, corn and onion in a bowl and add salt and pepper to taste. Add chilli flakes as well if you wish.
  3. Top 3 of the ragi loaf slices with the veggies and add cheese on top. 
  4. Cover the veggies with the remaining slices of ragi loaf. You can eat these right away if you wish. But you can take it further by applying a little butter to the ragi loaf slices and putting the sandwiches on a grill pan till both sides are crispy. 

2. Spicy Potato Ragi bread sandwich 


  1. Potato – 2 Boiled and mashed 
  2. Onion – 1 Finely Chopped
  3. Green chilli sauce
  4. Tomato ketchup
  5. Salt and pepper to taste 
  6. Chat masala- half teaspoon 
  7. Red chilli powder- half teaspoon 
  8. Butter- 2-3tbsp
  9. TBD’s ragi loaf- 6 slices 


  1. In a pan, add 1 tbsp butter and add the boiled and mashed potatoes along with salt, pepper, chat masala, red chilli powder and gently mix it all together.
  2. Let the mixture cool a little and meanwhile, apply green chilli sauce to 3 of the ragi loaf slices and tomato ketchup to the remaining three.
  3. To assemble the sandwiches, top the 3 slices with chilli spices with the spicy potato mixture. Cover the sandwiches with the 3 slices of ragi loaf with tomato ketchup. 
  4. Butter both sides of the sandwich and grill until crispy. 

3. Chickpea Lentil Ragi bread sandwich 


  1. Boiled red lentils- 1 cup
  2. Boiled chickpea- 1 cup
  3. Carrot- 1 small-sized, grated or finely chopped 
  4. Lemon juice- 2 tbsp
  5. Onion- half, chopped 
  6. Red or yellow bell pepper- half, chopped 
  7. Mayonnaise- 3 tbsp
  8. Roasted pumpkin seeds (optional)- 1 tbsp
  9. Salt and pepper to taste 
  10. Tomato- 1 large-sized, thinly sliced
  11. TBD’s ragi loaf- 6 slices  


  1. In a large bowl, add the chickpeas and red lentils and mash roughly using a fork or a masher. 
  2. Add the grated carrot, chopped bell pepper, onion, roasted pumpkin seeds and mayonnaise and mix well.
  3. Add the salt, pepper, and lemon juice and mix well
  4. Add a generous amount of the chickpea mixture on 3 of the slices of TBD’s ragi loaf and top these off with tomato slices and cover the sandwiches with the remaining 3 slices.
